There must be a way for children to learn together in a more child friendly way. What are your views on this topic?

Yes but I grew up in a very competitive town. I don’t know if the reading groups caused the competition or it made it seem more intense. I think it would make more sense if the kids were reading the same book and then discussing it together. Book reports (oral and written) could help students in other ways in terms of reaching their potential for that year. It is quite common for students to have trouble with reading comprehension. They should start teaching that earlier. I remember taking a reading comp class as a freshman in high school and wishing that I could have taken it earlier.
I don’t think they need to put the level of reading on the cover of the book. I don’t think it needs to be broadcasted. The teacher should maybe have a list and pull from the list for individual students or give the student the list and let them choose. It is really none of their classmates’ business what level they are at.

Horaayy..there are 3 comment(s) for me so far ;)

Yes I hated those – in my school each group had a different book and on that book state the Level of reading. So we all knew who did well and who had problems and they were labled.

I am a substitute teacher and it seems like every teacher does reading groups. I don’t remember having reading groups when I was in school. It is best if the kids are grouped according to reading level, but sometimes they are not. It’s horrible also if they don’t like the book. Projects to go along with the book are a great idea too.
